Rocks, Pagham and Selsey win as weather relents

The Rocks were thankful for Enfield officials and fans for clearing their pitch of snow to get the game on - repaying the hosts' efforts by winning the game with the only goal.

James Crane struck in the 35th minute as Jamie Howell and Darin Killpartrick saw their team chalk up yet another away win to cement their place in the top five of the Ryman premier division.

The Rocks gave debuts to goalkeeper Nick Jordan - covering for the injured Craig Stoner - and on-loan Pompey striker Dan Thompson and might have won by an even greater margin.

They weren’t the only local side able to get back into action as temperatures rose.

Pagham are way behind most of their Sussex League division-one rivals in terms of games played but did their chances of a top-six finish no harm at all by beating Hailsham 3-1 at Nyetimber Lane. Howard Neighbour, Scott Murfin and James Temple scored the goals.

Also home winners in the top flight were Adam Hinshelwood’s Selsey, who saw off Lingfield 2-1.

Ross Woolf and Tom Broadbent were their goal heroes but Selsey’s win was marred by a broken leg suffered by Omar Bugiel in a game in which the Blues felt a number of Lingfield players were lucky not to see red.

Matches involving Chichester, Midhurst and Sidlesham were postponed.

We’ll have all the local football action - more of which follows on Tuesday night - in the Observer, out on Thursday.
