Rocks Review: Striker Tait boosts depleted squad

The Rocks have boosted their firepower by recruiting another striker.

Allan Tait has linked up with the club as uncertainty continues over whether Newcastle trialist Jason Prior will ever return to Nyewood Lane.

In a season when the Rocks have suffered numerous departures, injuries and suspensions, the management wanted to add an extra forward.

They have come to an arrangement with Tait’s club Kingstonian that he can join the Rocks but can be recalled by the Ryman premier outfit if they find they need him again.

Tait, in his early 30s, began his career as a junior with Tottenham before moving to Deal Town, where he first came to prominence as a prolific goalscorer.

His career took him to Folkestone Invicta before he moved to Crawley Town, where he was top scorer in the 2004-05 season.

Moves to Canvey Island, Basingstoke - for whom he played against the Rocks in 2009 (pictured above) - and Eastbourne Borough followed before he spent 2009-10 at Dartford when they won the Ryman premier.

Tait signed for Kingstonian in January 2011 but has now joined up with the Rocks and goes straight into the squad for Saturday’s visit to title rivals Dulwich Hamlet.

He’s the Rocks’ fourth new signing in eight days. Last week they brought in striker Ashley Robinson, defender Sonny Cobbs and midfielder Ryan Thomson.

Cobbs and Jon Marzetti are suspended for the Dulwich game but Robinson is expected to start following his goalscoring debut against Ramsgate last week.

We’ll have news from the second v first clash at Champion Hill on this website tomorrow afternoon and a full report soon after the final whistle.
