The teenager is highly-regarded by Liverpool, signing a new three-year deal in December.

Yet the keeper would again be willing to leave Anfield on loan next term in search of regular first-team football to aid his development.

And Fulton insists Pompey would be a preference, such has been his enjoyment on the south coast so far.

He has made 11 appearances for the Blues following a January loan arrival.

During that time, Fulton has impressed in what had previously been a problem position this season under Pompey manager Paul Cook.

The youngster is revelling in life with Pompey since arriving at Fratton – and he is eager to continue that beyond this campaign.

He said: ‘I am having a great time here and am enjoying it.

‘To actually get out and play regular football has been great for me.

‘I need to kick on from here and hopefully get better and better with each game, learning more things.

‘Then one day I can play at the highest level I can possibly play.

‘I still have another another three years at Liverpool and obviously want to go out and play first-team football.

‘So if that means I go out on loan again next year then I would love to come back here.

‘It’s going to be difficult to get into Liverpool’s first team, that’s why I need to go out to places like Portsmouth.

‘I can get my experience from loan spells such as this and from there things can take care of themselves as long as I do the right things as well.

‘I would definitely consider coming back.

‘The club is huge and the fans are great.

‘It is not in my hands – but I would love to do something like that.’

Fulton saved a penalty on his Pompey debut, thwarting Oxford United’s Liam Sercombe having made the initial foul.

He has gone on to keep only one clean sheet, conceding 11 goals in 11 matches.

Yet that should not detract from his confident and reliable performances during the ongoing injury absence of Brian Murphy, who presently has a calf problem.

In a season in which Paul Jones and Aaron McCarey have also occupied the goalkeeping slot, Fulton has stood out as the most impressive.

He added: ‘It has been a big learning curve for me.

‘Turning up each day for training, trying to improve and trying to do as much as I can to help the team.

‘I feel I have been steady but am continuing to develop and have definitely improved.

‘I’ve had a keeper scoring against me, been on the end of conceding a penalty, have saved a penalty and moments like that have been great for my experience.

‘I have come here to learn and also help for us to push on for promotion.’
