The game was played on the 3G surface at Lancing and having not played regular football for some time, Chichester equipped themselves well in the opening minutes, organising well in defence and looking to break fast when they gained possession.

But it was Brighton who struck the first blow when a shot from the left-hand side hit the woodwork and Lucy Somes was on hand to tap the rebound into the net.

Kirsty Barton scored Albion’s second with a long-range drive that nestled in the corner.

Chichester began to press higher, making the game more open, and this led to a Brighton attack in which Somes’ shot was blocked – but Lisa Fulgence was on hand to place the ball into the net from close range giving Albion a 3-0 half-time lead.

After the break Chichester again started to work hard in search of a goal and they were rewarded for their efforts when after five minutes a 35-yard Amy Found free-kick flew into the far corner.

The game now looked like more of a contest and Chichester battled hard searching for more goals.

However after another ten minutes had passed, the home side scored their fourth, Fulgence with her second of the game, and they were comfortable from then on.

The home side scored three further goals with Somes completing a hat-trick and Natalie Taylor grabbing one.

The goals took Brighton’s tally to 28 in four games.

Brighton will now contest the county cup final against either Burgess Hill or Crawley Wasps.

Chichester are next in action in a league game at home to Exeter City ladies this Sunday (2pm).
