Selsey can Crow - but there's hard work ahead

Striker Wimble doubled the lead three minutes before the interval for his first goal in a month and sealed a win that puts more distance between Selsey and the drop zone.

The victory broke a streak of five games without a win for Adam Hinshelwood’s side, and the Selsey boss admitted the win came as a relief.

He said: “I’m definitely pleased as we were on a little run of losing a few games and getting the shutout as well is always pleasing.

“It was a comfortable game for us. I keep emphasising how important it is to keep a clean sheet – I thought we would always create chances going the other way and that proved to be the case.

“Max is getting into the habit of timing his runs and he ended up getting into the right place at the right time.

“The second was a great ball from Jake Lafferty that put Rob through, and as soon as he gets near the goal you know he’s going to tuck the ball in nine times out of ten.” Hinshelwood’s men are preparing for a busy festive period where they face local rivals Pagham and Chichester City, and the manager admits those games are in the players’ thoughts.

Hinshelwood said: “It’s in the back of their minds, but you’ve got to take one step at a time as there are a lot of points to play for between now and then.

“Really we’re looking to make the High Street Ground a bit of a fortress - with all the games we’ve got there, if we do that we’ll be pushing in the direction we want so that’s our aim.”

That aim begins with two home games in eight days. On Saturday they face Ringmer in the league and Lingfield visit for an RUR Charity Cup fourth-round tie a week later.
