Selsey gain vital win - but others slip up

Selsey were the only local winners on a day when waterlogged pitches put paid to a number of Sussex League and cup games.

Ian Martin’s Blues triumphed 2-1 over Crowborough at the High Street Ground to move up to a respectable 13th in division one.

But Chichester City’s challenge in the top four took a knock when they lost 2-1 at home to Sidley despite an early strike by Michael Turvey.

Pagham are out of the John O’Hara Cup after a 3-2 third-round defeat at Rye.

There was a shock for Bosham in the last eight of the Sussex Intermediate Cup. They lost 4-2 at home to West Sussex League team Cowfold. Second-half goals from Bradley Miles and James Bracher couldn’t save the Walton Lane outfit from a surprise exit.

Barnham won 3-1 at Newhaven in division three.

Games involving Midhurst and Sidlesham were called off.

Chichester go to East Grinstead for their weather-delayed Sussex Senior Cup second-round replay, while Pagham host Shoreham in division one.
