Students lead as West sussex pupils enjoy a football feast

GIRLS and boys representing schools from the Chichester and Bognor areas competed at the local school sport partnership's Year 5/6 football tournaments.

Run by the West Sussex West school sport partnership (SSP), the events were held at The Regis School for the girls’ teams with the boys battling for honours at Chichester High School for Boys.

At The Regis School, eight teams competed to be crowned the winners and for the chance to represent the area at county level in the first Sussex School Games to be held at the K2 in Crawley on July 3.

Matches were refereed by the Year 10 sports leaders at The Regis School: Tom Atkinson, Josh Irish, Connor Mavers and Nathan Ediker, who were outstanding.

After the group and knockout stages Downview took on Edward Byant in the final. After a 0-0 draw, the teams opted for a replay rather than a penalty shootout and Edward Bryant won 2-0.

The boys’ tournament was hosted by Chichester High School for Boys and the games were referred by their sports leaders. The competition involved Downview, Edward Bryant, Rose Green, South Bersted, Central C of E Primary, Fishbourne, Jessie Younghusband, North Mundham, Parklands and Portfield schools.
