Chichester knew that nothing less than a victory would keep their title hopes alive – and they got it in fine style.

From the first whistle Chichester seized the initiative and enjoyed large amounts of possession inside the visitors’ half.

St Nicholas did look dangerous on the break with a hard-working centre-forward chasing long balls played into her, but without troubling Sally-AnneThompson in the home goal.

Chichester got the reward for their large amount of possession when Kally Ambler was sent clear of the backline to score her first of the game.

Chances were being created at will – Tammy Waine hit the post after a good cross from Ambler, Laura Ingram headed over from a Lucie Challen corner and Lauren Cheshire tested the goalkeeper from a very tight angle.

It was Ambler who got Chichester’s second and third, the second coming after a defensive mix-up and third another one-on-one. Jenna Fowlie completed the first-half scoring when put clear on the left-hand side to race through and finish calmly past the keeper.

The second half began much as the first had, with Chichester looking to add to their tally.

Ambler found herself clear on two further occasions and slotted home both times to take her tally to five.

Chance after chance was being created but the visiting goalkeeper was a match to most efforts.

Last week’s goal hero Ingram grabbed Chichester seventh after a mix-up in the box after a corner allowed the ball to fall to her feet and she smashed the ball into the roof of the net.

There was still time for Chichester to get an eighth when, after another corner, the goalkeeper was adjudged to have fouled Shannon Aulbery inside the box to give Chichester a penalty. Amy Found stepped up to convert the spot-kick.

The ladies now have two away games – against Exeter and Swindon – followed by a home tie to Larkhall.
