It follows the stepping-down of last year’s manager Gary Norgate – who continues to play for the Stags – and the departure of Richard Towers to local rivals Wick and Barnham.Club chairman Darren Chiverton said: “Our first thought was to recruit John Suter as replacement.

“John is vastly experienced at county level and his knowledge of the game is second to none.

“I met John and was instantly impressed with his enthusiasm to get straight back into management following his short spell at Wick.”

Suter has had an instant impact on the team and hopes to bring in a few new players to strengthen the backbone of the side.

A narrow 2-1 home defeat to Steyning in the Sussex Senior Cup at the weekend to a 97th minute goal denied Midhurst the chance of extra-time but the improvements and confidence throughout the team have been obvious since Suter’s appointment.

There was further evidence of this on Tuesday when the Stags drew 0-0 at Storrington.
