UEFA man Saunders is just right for Midhurst management

MIDHURST have started planning for a new season in division two of the Sussex League with the appoointment of a new assistant manager.

Former Chichester City player and assistant boss Ian Saunders, who has UEFA badges to his name, has joined the Rotherfield outfit as Trevor Waller’s right-hand man.

The club are also looking for a coach or player-coach to aid Pete Hill with the reserves, who will again play in reserve section west.

Saunders, who has previously played under Waller at East Preston, has recently returned from a stint with the armed forces in Afghanistan.

Midhurst begin pre-season training on Thursday, July 7, and play their first friendly against Worthing United on Tuesday, July 19 (7.30).

They have also lined up friendlies against United Services (July 23, 2pm), Horndean (July 26, 7.45), Witley & Milford (July 28, 6.30), TD Shipley (double-header, July 30, from 2pm) and Liss (August 2, 7.30).

The Sussex League season begins on Saturday, August 6.
