Rain washed out much of the weekend’s sporting programme in West Sussex - with the Rocks’ Sunday trip to face Cray the latest victim.

Almost all matches in football’s Sussex League were abandoned because of waterlogged pitches, including those involving Pagham, Chichester City, Midhurst and Sidlesham.

Bognor were scheduled to play on Sunday afternoon at Bromley against Cray. Bromley’s FA Trophy game with Boreham went ahead on Saturday afternoon but more rain fell overnight and a Sunday morning pitch inspection saw the match called off.

Bognor’s rugby match against Weybridge Vandals in London three south west was called off only an hour or so before the scheduled start, although Chichester’s home clash with Trojans in London one south survived at the fast-draining Oaklands Park.

A lot of other Sunday football was called off.

The only local senior team to get a game on Saturday were Selsey, who probably wished they’d had a washout too after losing 4-0 at East Grinstead.
