U’s draw; Bexhill win

Hastings United picked up a very creditable 2-2 draw away to Whitehawk today (Boxing Day).

The U’s went behind but a Bradley Goldberg goal just before the break brought them level at half time in this Ryman Football League Premier Division fixture.

Second-placed Whitehawk went ahead again as the rain came down during the second half, but a 35-yard screamer from Tom Vickers gave United their fifth consecutive league draw.

Elsewhere, Bexhill United edged out Little Common 2-1 in an open and entertaining Sussex County League Division Two derby at The Polegrove.

Warren Parsons put Bexhill ahead with a cracking strike into the top corner just before the hour only for Common to equalise through Jamie Crone’s 24th of the season in the 65th minute.

Russell Eldridge hit the post with a free kick as Common looked the more likely winners, but it was Bexhill who grabbed the points on 84 minutes when Will Dunstall punished a goalkeeping mistake.

Full reports on both matches will appear in Friday’s Observers.

The games between Rye United and Sidley United, and Eastbourne United AFC and Westfield were postponed on Christmas Eve due to waterlogged pitches.
