Delighted Crawley Town manager Richie Barker was pleased with the way his young defence dealt with the physical challenge Hednesford made to earn a 2-1 away victory in the FA Cup First Round.
He said the team had done the job they had wanted to do on a tough pitch for playing football.
Barker said: “It wasn’t the most attractive game to watch. We came here to do a job which we’ve done and we are where we want to be which is sat in front of the TV tomorrow watching the second round draw.
“What impressed me the most was their resilience - the more they threw at us the more we had to throw at them. It was the way we dealt with the physical side. We aren’t the biggest team in the World - we aren’t the biggest team in League One. Three of the back four are 21 and under and they dealt with probably one of the most physical games they’ll ever play.”
