Weir on our way: Pagham progress in county cup

Pagham gained revenge for a 1-0 home defeat in the league as Andy Weir's penalty ensured a well- deserved cup victory for the Lions.

A starting place for Alex Kew was reward for some sparkling recent displays. The visitors started brightly, but James Misslebrook was superb at the back.

James Temple and Kew supported Scott Murfin well, with chances for all three early on. The goal came as Temple was scythed down in the area and Weir despatched the ball past Lockwood with ease.

Three Bridges pair George Hillier and Dean Wright caused more problems for the trees behind the goal than Wes Hallett in it. But Hallett did have to pull off a great save from Hillier as the first half ended.

Three Bridges came out all guns blazing. Wright shot just wide while Hillier forced another top-drawer save from Hallett.

Scott Murfin’s run on the hour was curtailed by Liam Ahearne. Wright shot wide again and Three Bridges were edging it.

Weir was replaced by Dan Simmonds, who’d been on two minutes before his well-timed run was thwarted by the linesman’s flag.

There was a scare for Pagham with five minutes left as Murfin went down heavily, but he recovered after treatment.

Temple ran the defence ragged twice in quick succession, but the ball was scrambled away to end a game which either side could have won.
