Whittingham: Pompey gave it everything

The Blues put in a much-improved display at Fratton Park and were unlucky to end up empty-handed after two late goals.

The defeat took their winless run to 16 matches.

But caretaker boss Whittingham praised his players and Pompey’s fans for their spirit throughout the clash.

He said: ‘The lads gave their all.

‘I can’t fault them with that and the fans were right with us from start to finish.

‘The conditions weren’t the best. They certainly influenced the second goal.

‘But both sides had to play in it so we can’t use that as an excuse.’
