Both sides had a player sent off in a competitive opening half as The Dragons were denied by a string of fine saves by Portuguese goalkeeper Luis Correia.

They will be kicking themselves over some sloppy defending and wasteful final balls into the middle but dominated large chunks of the possession without finding that killer pass.

Wick now entertain Storrington on Saturday when they hope to pick up their first points of the campaign.

‘It has been a frustrating start but it could have been so different,’ said Wick manager Tom Simmonds.

‘We have plenty to work on but there were also positives to take from an improved performance and we were much better than in Saturday’s home defeat to Bexhill.’

Michael Gilchrist was unfortunate to be dismissed early on for a challenge on Ricardo Fernandes which pro deserved a yellow before Bilingshurst were also reduced for ten men when Sammy Ndlovu was caught by a stray elbow.

The former Chichester City winger bravely continued with a cut, bruised and bloody mouth as Wick went 2-0 down after the interval.

Dragons captain Andy Chick reduced their arrears, turning in a cross at the near post.

But Billingshurst then capitalised on confusion at the back to give the scoreline a flattering look on a bumpy pitch which lacked the smoothness of the Crabtree Park carpet.
