BRIGHTON BETTING: Can Seagulls’ season be salvaged?

Brighton lost twice inside three days, losing valuable ground on the hunt for that oh so lucrative final play-off spot at the weekend at home to Wigan and crashing out of the FA Cup on Monday at the KC Stadium, can anything be salvaged from their season?

The only solace from the defeat to Wigan was that both Reading and Ipswich dropped lost at the weekend to hand the advantage firmly in the hands of the Latics, leap-frogging the Seagulls into 7th with a three point cushion.

Leo Ulloa scored in both of Brighton’s 2-1 defeats but he simply cannot do it on his own and needs the burden of being Albion’s only outlet up front. No other player has scored for Brighton since the 3-1 defeat of Port Vale seven games ago; does Oscar Garcia press the panic button?

Stephen Ward said of the side’s dry spell up front: “We just need to take a bit of the weight off his shoulders. Leo’s a real asset to us and the way he’s playing he’s back to his best, we do need to pitch in and start scoring from other areas, but it’s not through a lack of trying.“

This will inevitably place further pressure on the misfiring trio of David Lopez, Andrea Orlandi and David Rodriguez however, the latter replaced by William Buckley with half an hour to go and the winger could start against Millwall on Saturday.

Ian Holloway was touted as being the ‘saviour’ of the Lions when taking over from Steve Lomas but they look on the brink of relegation after losing to fellow strugglers Barnsley at the weekend; 11/10 to go down with BetVictor.

Millwall are without a win or in their last six, with the defeat to the Tykes their poorest performance to date and pressure already beginning to mount on Holloway, who spoke after the game to say “things have got a lot harder after this result but they were going to be hard anyway.”

You’re not wrong there Ian and BetVictor fancy them to struggle on Saturday. Brighton 23/20, Millwall 11/4 and the draw 12/5, surely this is the type of game the Seagulls have been crying out for?

With the exception of the little Argentine up front Brighton have not scored in their last six however Millwall have similarly not kept a clean sheet in the same spell, something has to give.

Leo Ulloa is, naturally, the 15/4 favourite to open the scoring but with changes afoot the value looks to be with Jonathan Obika. The 23-y-o Spurs loanee impressed after replacing Diego Lopez against Wigan and he is preferred at 11/2 to score the first goal and 2/1 to score anytime.

It was a bad week for the bookmakers last Saturday with Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United all winning and a fixture in plenty of weekend accas - punters will be hoping lightning can strike twice at the weekend.

Everton (9/20) will likely kick proceedings off at home to a West Ham side that have won their last four on the spin but vulnerable on their travels and fortunate last week away at Southampton. The Toffees should get punters off to a good start in Saturday’s early kick-off.

Liverpool (11/10) travel to St Mary’s to face Southampton in the evening game, with the Reds as ruthless as ever in front of goal. Brendan Rodgers’ side beat Swansea 4-3 at Anfield last week and have now scored 70 goals in the Premier League this season, Daniel Sturridge scoring in his last 8 PL games and 11/10 to make it 9 against the Saints.

Chelsea (9/20) and Arsenal (13/20) should be both comfortable with trips to Fulham and Stoke respectively and that four-fold pays enhanced to 15/2 with BetVictor.
