Winless run a major concern - Hughton

Albion boss Chris Hughton admits his side's six-game winless run is a major concern but says he cannot fault the application of his side.

Brighton went down 1-0 at home to Wolves in the Championship this afternoon and have now lost three of their last four matches.

Hughton said: "The run is a major concern and there's the frustration with it as well. When you've been in the game as long as I have, you know you're going to hit these periods and it's whether, in these periods, you can find a way of getting a result.

"I think from where we are at this minute, we are stretched, there's no doubt about that but I don't think I could fault the application of anybody.

"The players are having a real go but we are stretched. At the minute, things are not going our way, that possibly earlier in the season were."

Albion had several openings against Wolves but lost to Connor Goldson's own goal and Hughton said: "We certainly would have had games this season where we would have had less possession, less ball in the final third and possibly won the game.

"We just need to find a way to get the goals which are going to win us football games. Unfortunately for us, we've made a couple of defensive errors in the last couple of games that have given teams that little bit of a head start and both teams have worked hard to protect the lead."

On-loan Manchester United striker James Wilson was pictured being sick on the pitch before the game, after illness affected his participation in the Brentford and Ipswich games.

Hughton said: "I've communicated with him very well. He played in the game at Brentford and he hadn't been well for a couple of days before that. We'd spoken before the game, he did the warm-up and he felt fine but obviously he struggled with his recovery, hence we took him off at half-time.

"That's why we left him out in midweek but we spoke to him again and he said he felt fine. This is a lad that has gone from being very much part of a Manchester United squad, not playing very many games, to coming here and what the Championship entails.

"He was fine to play and he was probably one of the ones who was more likely to get us a goal which we needed to get back in the game."

Wolves boss Kenny Jackett said: "This is an imposing place because of the size of the crowd but also Brighton are a very good team. They have some excellent players, I thought on the ball Kayal was the stand-out player today on the pitch.

"We did very well to cope with them because they had both physical presence and technical ability and where they are in the league, they deserve to be.

"We're trying very hard to bridge thet gap. I think the top five have been very good and deserve to be there and Ipswich are now the form side and are coming through very strongly.

"I think the table is a fair reflection and the top five have been better and look like they are going to take some shifting. We're one of a number of sides competing for sixth place but Ipswich have got some momentum now and have done very well."
