There’s a strong connection with former Pompey players at Yeovil.
Sadly, the only one we are likely to see tomorrow is Ryan Bird.
Jack Compton and Wes Fogden are both at the club but are sidelined for this weekend.
The former was taken off in the first half against Hartlepool last Saturday and will be out for the game.
With Wes Fogden, it’s a bit more of a mystery, however.
He hasn’t appeared since December after playing quite a bit across the first half of the season.
Fogden did get hit by a bit of a freak injury earlier in the campaign.
He fell awkwardly in a game against York and ended up fracturing his finger pretty badly, which kept him sidelined for a while.
Now he’s out again and no-one is saying much about it.
The longer it goes on the worse you fear it is.
It was quite difficult for Fogden under previous manager Paul Sturrock.
Sometimes he’d play on the right, sometimes he’d play on the left, and others as a defensive midfielder.
I think that frustrated him, but there’s no doubt he’s a hard worker – it’s just Yeovil fans haven’t seen him for a while.
But it’s been a better season for Ryan Bird, who is the top scorer.
Basically, he’s been Johnny On The Spot and has been great.
Since Darren Way has come in, he’s been used more as an impact sub.
He’s definitely the best goalscorer in the squad, it’s just whether he does enough of the other things you need to do to keep your place.
He’s definitely looked like he belongs in league football, though.
Sturrock lost his job in December and has been replaced by Way, who has done quite well.
It’s a fight for survival, though, and York winning in midweek was something they could have done without.
They could have done with doing Exeter a favour. It wasn’t to be.
So these next two games are going to be interesting to say the least.
They’ve got Portsmouth this weekend and Plymouth next Tuesday. Two tough ones.
Both games are at home, with Plymouth being a rescheduled game.
That was supposed to have been the week before last, but was rained off.
They are coming back next week and the challenge has to be to win at least one of those games.
It’s going to be a tough task because both have shown they are good sides this season.
