Youth football: Reds on march to cup final
Chichester City Colts under-11 Reds won their semi final 4-2 against Ferring in the Ernie Piper Memorial Cup at Oaklands Park to progress to the final, which will be played at Arundel on April 2.
After an even first half, the Colts dominated the second and were deserved winners. Goals by Reuben Thomas (2), Eddie Borbone and Billy English saw them through.
Aldwick Athletic 4 Worthing Town Yellow 3
An enthralling game saw Aldwick end Worthing’s faint title hopes at a windswept Rose Green.
Athletic started well, putting the Worthing defence under pressure. They got their reward when Fin Brian danced his way through to fire home into the bottom corner past keeper Johnny Woods.
Worthing’s star player Jessie Jay Moore, whose 40 goals have driven their title challenge, was heavily shackled by Wiktor Nowak, but he did briefly escape the attentions of the defender by lifting the ball over the onrushing Klaudiusz Piasecki.
Aldwick regained the lead when Alex Stone smashed the ball into the roof of the net for his first goal for the club since joining at the turn of the year.
Worthing hit back with two goals in quick succession for a half-time lead.
In the second half, the trio of Brian, Stone and Charlie Hunter caused plenty of problems. It took a great save from Piasecki to keep Aldwick in the game.
Aldwick’s pressure told as Hunter equalised with a great finish into the top corner with ten minutes left.
In stoppage time, a quick Nowak free-kick caught out the Worthing defence. Hunter burst through and lifted the ball over Woods to send the home supporters into raptures.
Aldwick: Piasecki, Wilkinson, Longley, Nowak, Wasowski, Stone, Jones, Copeland, James, Hunter, Brian. Subs - D Anthony, S Anthony, Berry, Mizgier.
