Frost beats Fontwell's Boxing Day plans

The Boxing Day race meeting at Fontwell Park has been abandoned because the course is frozen.

Temperatures dropped to -9C overnight which proved too cold for the frost protection covers to cope with.

The course was raceable on Christmas Day.

It is a big blow to the venue, where a crowd of up to 7,000 - their biggest for years - had been expected.

Now all that staff can do is hope the weather improves by the time of their next scheduled meeting, on Friday, January 7.
