Gala weekend at Pyecombe Golf Club

The weekend is a traditional major fundraiser for the club and a raffle and auction is expected to raise around 1,200.

Gala Day was so wet and windy that some teams walked in without completing their rounds. The rain arrived late morning and competitors on the course at that time were faced with virtually unplayable conditions.

The format of the event was teams of four, with members having the opportunity to invite along guests to take part in the stableford event.

The two best scores counted on the first two holes, the three best on the second six holes and all four on the last six.

Results: 1 Dave Bridle, John Hart, Peter Fray and guest Matt Bridle, 120 pts.

2 Peter Charman, Tim Crossman and guests Stuart Charman and P Law, 118; 3 Alan Davey, John Hall, Gary Ellis and guest J Franks 113 pts.

On Sunday winds were gusting up to 50mph and there were many low scores in the Captain's Day stableford. Standard scratch moved up to 73, but a number of players managed decent scores regardless of the weather.

Overall winner was Nick Wardell with 42 pts.
