By George - Chichester youngster takes karting world by storm

KARTING ace George Thomson has had a 2010 season to remember - but he hopes next year will be similarly laden with success.

The 12-year-old from Sidlesham Common has just had his last race as a Honda Cadet driver and he marked it by winning the Clay Pigeon Kart Club 2010 championship.

It’s the same competition in which Formula 1 star Jenson Button started his racing career.

The whole day’s racing was in torrential rain but Thomson is something of a master of wet conditions and he won nearly every race in the championship.

That came after he won the Two Counties championship for Honda Cadet drivers. He was unbeaten in every race for the championship.

In October Thomson, who attends Chichester High School for Boys, scooped the Forest Edge Kart Club championship for Honda Cadet, and was again unbeaten in every race. He was the highest points scorer of all club championship winners.

Thomson’s other successes this year have included the Southern Championship for Honda cadets, the coveted SC plate and the cadet support race at the Super One British Championship at Clay Pigeon.

He was also runner-up in the 2010 NKRA Southern championship and third in the NKRA National Championship for Honda Cadets.

Dad Graham said: “George started racing in his Honda Cadet only at the beginning of 2009, and in 2010 George has achieved all his championship goals and made quite a reputation for himself. He has had a great two years.

“As a result of his success this year he is now moving up to Junior TKM racing for next year and has been given TKM factory support for his engines, which is just fantastic.

“George is starting to test with his new Junior Kart during the winter and the 2011 season starts in February.”

George needs sponsors to help fund his karting. Anyone who can help should contact dad Graham on 01243 641070 or [email protected]
