Goalkeeper Crane joins the Rooks

Lewes manager Steve King has signed goalkeeper Daniel Crane for tomorrow's vital FA Cup third qualifying round tie at Dorchester.

Crane, who has signed on a two-month loan, played around 70 games for Burton Albion under Nigel Clough and was on a year's contract last season at Rushden & Diamonds.

This term he has been No.2 at the club and believes it is time he returned to first-team football.

King said: 'He comes highly recommended by Nigel Clough. We felt we needed a change and Paul Wilkerson agreed and has left the club on good terms.

'He travels from Stevenage three times a week and has found that difficult. He has been a good servant to the club and was excellent last season, but he has made too many mistakes this term.'

Midfielder Paul Kennett was on the bench during Friday's 3-2 home defeat by Bishops Storford and King says he is just about ready to return and plans a 'big part' for him at Dorchester.

One option King has ruled out for tomorrow's trip is to play with wing backs.

There is a 5,000 prize for the winners and King is confident that welcome windfall will come to Lewes.

He said: 'I watched Dorchester against Bedford on Saturday and if we play like we did against Bishops Stortford winning is not a problem. We were so unlucky, we absolutely murdered them and three individual mistakes cost us dear.

'If the players repeat that work ethic again there's nothing more I can ask of them as a manager.

'We set the level that night and that's what we want from now to move on.

'We've had a mixed bag of results so far but now we're looking for consistency.'
