Katie Field (Bognor), Yasmin Hang (Golf at Goodwood) and Lille-Beaue Thorpe (Cowdray Park) will all stake a claim to be part on England’s age-group team.

The talented trio will follow in the footsteps of players such as Masters champion Danny Willett and the world number two amateur Bronte Law, who both came through the England regional squad system.

The golf is followed by a tea and all the ladies thoroughly enjoy this annual date in the golfing diary.

Poor weather earlier in the year forced the Elizabeth Perkins Cup to be abandoned.

Again the weather was not kind and halfway through the round torrential rain began to come down but this time the competition was completed.

Meg Mearns just edged past Hynes to prevent her from collecting another trophy win to go with her King Farlow Cup success.

BOGNOR

There was an excellent turnout of 70 golfers for the seniors’ Autumn Cup.

In the mens’ Winners & Runner-up Trophy, or as club manager James McLean calls it ‘champion of champions’, McLean was the winner himself with a gross score of 69 and a nett effort of 64.

COWDRAY PARK

Cowdray Park Golf Club seniors’ season-long competitions for the Carter Trophy and the Ken Young Eclectic Trophy are drawing to an exciting climax.

The Carter Trophy is a Stableford-based competition and, with only one round remaining, four players can win.

Mel Milburn is the current leader with 46 points, having gone top in July from Peter Laws after he suffered knee problems and was put out of action.

Despite that setback, Laws has recovered well and could be back in action for the final round.

Also in with a remote chance of winning are Mark Kelly and Bernie May, but they would have to win, while also hoping Milburn fails to register a point.

The Eclectic is more competitive, with only one point separating the top ten, and a further three points covering all the way down to Tony Castley in 28th place.

Leading by half a point is John Hall from five players on 57½ – Dave Hirons, Paul Owen, John Kitchener, John Doran and Phil Harrison.

A further half-point behind are Steve Tkaczynski and Dave Gaff, both of whom have margin for improvement, whereas Chris Hutchings and Harvey Terry, on the same points, will have to produce something special.

The final qualifying round for both trophies is November 10.
