We'd rather score bullseyes than holes in one

The second of the vice-captain's nights at Cowdray Park Golf Club was something a little different from the norm.

Vice captain Mark Jasper wanted to bring something new for an entertaining evening for members and guests and staged a darts exhibition with Kevin “The Artist” Painter.

It was the first time the club had run anything like this and it was well-received by the 70-plus present.

Local MC Chris Skinner introduced the players and refereed the games. Kicking off, club captain Martin Day who wore a Kevin Painter shirt for the occasion – but the PDC star took the first victory of the night.

Up next was Todd White who provided a unique walk-on, but failed to record a win.

Former club captain Phil Harrison was up next and after Painter hit the first 180 of the evening, he left Harrison trailing by quite a bit and went on to make it a hat-trick of wins.

The challengers kept coming and Simon “Psycho” Seymour gave it his best shot but wasn’t able to beat Painter.

Former golf club champion Ian Sewell’s ability at the oche didn’t quite match that of his golfing talent and he also lost to the PDC star and despite back-to-back 180s in practice, Lawrence Dixon also fell short, as did his good friend Shaun Pay.

It looked like Painter would whitewash the challengers – until Lee Newman stepped up and recorded the first victory of the evening.

Newman’s twin sons were invited to play a leg of doubles after one of them scored a 180 in practice as Painter teamed up with vice captain Jasper.

They enjoyed their time at the oche but Jasper and Painter won.
