Crowds have been a little lower than officials hoped at the first two meetings, with around 8,000 attending evenings headlined by Sister Bliss and, last Friday, Radio 1 DJ Mistajam.

A big-name booking in the form of Basement Jaxx are in town for the series finale this week and the 12,000 tickets sold out several weeks ago.

Racecourse general manager Alex Eade said last Friday’s fixture was a little quieter but was still an enjoyable night.

“I think the racing and the music both lived up to expectations. Historically for some reason the second of these series of three nights always tends to be a bit quieter in terms of the numbers attending,” said Eade.

“We’re in the nice position of having already sold out the final night and it should be a fantastic occasion.”

There are 49 expected runners across the six races.

Friday’s tips: 6.10pm Sennockian Song, 6.45 Capolavoro, 7.15 Alyday, 7.50 Mark Hopkins, 8.25 Peloponnese, 8.55 Caitie.

As Goodwood’s series of Three Friday Nights comes to an end tonight, champion amateur jockey and 2016 Goodwood racecourse ambassador Tom Marquand takes us through the music he likes to listen to on the road ahead of big races.

He writes: “If there is one thing jockeys do a lot of, it’s driving. I bought a new car around six weeks ago and I’ve already racked up 10,000 miles in it!

“Despite there being a few jockeys based at Richard Hannon’s, most of us split up across the country to cover all the rides so most of my time is spent driving alone. Some music is required to get me through the long distances – I love listening to BBC Radio 1 and have the odd CD I play.

“I enjoy most of the chart music that is current so you could say I’m a bit of a pop music fan!

“Here are some of my favourite songs that I enjoy listening to:

Fast Car – Tracy Chapman: It’s a bit of a classic and certainly before my time but it’s a catchy song and easy enough to sing along to.

Renegades – X Ambassadors: This is something a bit more modern! To be honest, I don’t know much about the band and I’ve definitely overplayed this in the last year or so but it can’t help but put you in a good mood.

Never Say Never – Basement Jaxx: My motto for my riding career?! It’s another feelgood song and I’m looking forward to hearing Basement Jaxx play after racing at Goodwood, it’s the final part of the Three Friday Nights. I love riding at the music nights as there is an even greater buzz around the course.

Broken Strings – James Morrison ft. Nelly Furtado: What can I say? It’s still a great tune to listen to. Perhaps I need to get some new songs on my phone though…

Banana Pancakes – Jack Johnson: Compared to the other songs, this is a bit more mellow. If I need to relax or chill out, this is something that does the trick!
