Goodwood ready for three days of top racing and family fun

The Group 2 Celebration Mile is the highlight on day two of the three-day August Festival but it is backed up by a number of other good-quality contests, and all have attracted good fields.

There are six in the frame for the Doom Bar Celebration Mile, headed by Clive Cox’s Kodi Bear, now likely to go off odds-on favourite.

Waterworth said: “The Celebration Mile looks very strong. Theose left in include Sussex Stakes third Gabrial, and Kodi Bear, a Group 3 winner at Salisbury last time out.

“On the same day, we have the Prestige Stakes, for which a field of nine includes Belvoir Bay, who won at Glorious. We have a £100,000 handicap, with 20 entries including Enlace and Pastoral Player, plus the March Stakes, in which Blue Surf and Eye Of The Storm are both in the frame.

“It looks a really good card and certainly wouldn’t be out of place at our Qatar Festival.

“The whole three days is looking very good. The build of the entertainment has gone well and the weather is due to dry up so we’d hope to see 25,000 racegoers come through the gates over the weekend.”

Sunday’s racing highlight is the Supreme Stakes, which has Richard Hannon’s past Glorious winner Ivawood among entries.

Channel 4 Racing will be live from Goodwood on Saturday with the Celebration Mile the feature.

Kodi Bear trainer Cox said: “We are looking forward to competing. He won impressively at Salisbury and this is the logical step up to Group 2 company. He handles an easier surface so I’m relaxed about the ground.”

Goodwood clerk of the course Seamus Buckley said: “The course has recovered well from the Qatar Festival.
