Herbert aims to move up the gears on Mazda racing scene

After a successful start to his career in karting and the Ma5da MX5 Mk1 Challenge, Luke Herbert is competing in this season's Ma5da Racing MX5 cup in his Mk3 Mazda.

Last week the Aldingbourne ace raced at a very wet Castle Combe circuit near Bristol, where qualifying and racing took place on the same day.

Herbert qualified fourth for the first race and quickly fought his way to second position, before going slightly wide while giving racing room to another driver and glancing off the tyre wall at Tower Corner – rejoining the field in fourth.

Despite this he defended fourth and challenged third for the remainder of the race.

In race two, Herbert started fifth and after an excellent start and having avoided first-lap chaos at Quarry Corner, he went second - and stayed there until the end of the race.

This left Herbert, whose main sponsor is local firm SRC Recycling, second in the early table.
