Home advantage counts for nothing for Bognor squash team

Bognor's second team were unable to use home advantage when they played a strong West Worthing team at Hawthorn Road with the visitors on top in every match to run up a 5-0 win.

Bognor’s lower strings were unable to register even one game as first Steve Kus lost in three games to Clair Young, Jon Burley lost to Jeremy Prail, also in three, and Alex Burrows lost a closer game but still went down 3-0 against Ed Clarke.

No2 string Dave Meagher battled hard taking the second game but was outplayed in the next two, losing 3-9, 10-8, 6-9, 0-9 to Will Jennings.

The No1 string match brought the best encounter when Bognor’s Paul Butcher, playing Alex Warren, raced away with the first game 9-0 with the Worthing player coming back to level with a very close 10-8 win.

Butcher took the lead again, but was unable to close out the match as Warren again levelled and then held on in the decisive game.

The score was 9-0, 8-10, 9-4, 3-9, 3-9.

It gave West Worthing V 20 points while Bognor II took just three, leaving them at the wrong end of the table.

Bognor II are at home to Midhurst III tomorrow (Friday Dec 3, 7pm). Details on 01243 865462.
