The English Bowls Youth
Development Scheme Sussex County Finals saw a round robin singles competition in the morning followed by an
afternoon of skill tests to assess the players’ bowling
abilities.

Points were awarded for the morning competition and also for performances in the afternoon skill tests, then combined to determine the overall winner.

The level of bowling skill on display was very high again this year and at the end of the event Ajay Morphett, from Egerton Park Club, Bexhill, was crowned the overall winner.

The runner-up was James Brennan from Worthing Pavilion Bowls Club and the pair will go on to represent Sussex in the Regional Final, which will be held at Horsham in April.

There were some strong performances from Horsham juniors this year with Isaac Read-Jones, 13, coming fifth overall, Sam Willis, 13, coming sixth and Archie Batten, 11, 18th.

Regan Read-Jones, ten, and Millie Dalrymple, nine, were joint winners of the girls section of the singles competition.

The County Finals for 15 to 18 year olds will take place at Horsham on Sunday February 9.
