It was their first event of the year on the A27 east of Chichester and everyone was looking forward to riding on the newly-laid tarmac. Expectations of a fast night were supported by warm conditions and only a light breeze so when James Mapley of Blazing Saddles finished with a time of 19:53 (an average speed of 30mph-plus) there was evidence of just how fast the night had been.

His team-mate Elise Sherwell delivered a very fast 22-minute ride to be fastest lady by more than a minute.

BRCC’s Aaron Smith was fastest junior, just a few seconds slower that Sherwell.

Weather conditions prevented riders capitalising on their summer fitness with circuit races at Goodwood rained off last week.

On Sunday BRCC members took part in the Westhampnett triathlon in torrential rain. David Patten produced an excellent performance despite conditions which at one point left the transition areas partially flooded.
