The £300,000 Group 1 contest, these days sponsored by QIPCO and part of the British Champions’ Series, has thrown up some enthralling races down the years.

But it’s not just the list of past winners that’s illustrious. The list of horses entered for this year’s race makes impressive reading.

Last year Frankel became the first horse to win the race twice, where star names such as Canford Cliffs, Rip Van Winkle, Henrythenavigator and Rocks of Gibraltar, and those all in the 21st century, had done it just once.

This year, what a contest it promises to be once again.

The headliners look like being Dawn Approach and Toronado, who have had two great battles already this season - the latest being the St James’ Palace Stakes, when they could hardly be separated as Dawn Approach edged it in a photo finish - and are all lined up for the third instalment in the Sussex Stakes.

If that weren’t enough, Aiden O’Brien’s own Royal Ascot hero Declaration of War is in the mix, as are many other top horses.

It’s a mouthwatering prospect - and we are giving you the chance to see it for free.
