King crowned doubles champion

Yolanda King is basking in the glory of winning a national table tennis title last weekend.

The 17-year-old from Hastings clinched the girls’ doubles in the Cadet and Junior National Championships at Hertfordshire Sports Village.

King and Tin Tin Ho (Middlesex), pictured with the trophy, were taken to five in the semi-finals by Emma Torkington and Megan Knowles (Berkshire), but finished well on top 11-9, 9-11, 11-3, 8-11, 11-3.

In the final, King, who is currently based at the Grantham Academy, and Ho overcame Derbyshire pair Abbie Millwain and Isobel Ashley 11-7, 11-4, 6-11, 12-10.

King also reached the quarter-finals in the mixed doubles alongside Adam Harrison (Lincolnshire) and got to the same stage of the girls’ singles, in which she was seeded no.2.
