Lee's stunner gives Mullets victory over EP

LEE BARNARD'S stunning strike 13 minutes from time means Arundel Football Club will finish third if they win their last two games of the season.

They host Shoreham on Saturday and then visit Chichester on Bank Holiday Monday. Three points from the two matches will secure fourth place.

However, Arundel will secure third spot on Saturday if they defeat Shoreham and East Preston beat third-placed Crowborough. That would leave both sides on 72 points but Mullets have a much superior goal difference.

Barnard's strike came after East Preston were on the attack. Mullets' Alex Duncan won the ball from EP's Phil Churchill and passed the ball out to James Bennett. He found Matt Huckett on the left-wing and from Huckett's pass, Barnard cut inside and fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner from 20 yards.

Arundel had gone close in the first half through Jason Wimbleton and Josh Biggs, from Matt Huckett corners. And, Biggs, still searching for his first Mullets goal since joining from EP in March, was also denied by EP stopper Tom Rand.

Dan White shaved the Arundel bar with one effort in the first half for EP, then Mullets keeper Ben O'Connor saved Steve Metcalf's free kick and Sonny Banks fired wide.

ARUNDEL: O'Connor; Duncan, Hack, D.Walker, Hall; Barnard, Wimbleton, Bennett, Mike Huckett; Matt Huckett, Biggs. Subs: Peacock, Goff, Gaskin, Meeney, Colbourne.
