The event, organised by Chichester Runners, leads runners out of Lavant for a lap around Goodwood Motor Circuit and back again. All finishers get a cold beer and a hot burger, hence why it’s so popular.

There were many stand-out performances for Tone Zone. Harry Annals was first for the club and tenth overall with a time of 29.44. Jess Thomson finished third in her category in 36.10.

Anna-Kari Enes completed the run in 36.48 which made her first of the over-45 females. Susi Briggs was third in category with 41.08.

Another five-mile race took place on Saturday at Queen Elizabeth Country Park in East Hampshire. First to finish the undulating cross-country course for the club was Tony Holcombe in 43.31.

Sarah Stothard and Rebecca Jones enjoyed a sprint to the finish with Stothard just winning by a second.

The race also saw Amanda Worne continue her marathon preparation with her bike-chair. With help and support from friends and her daughter Amelia, she finished in 1.07.59 which, considering how hilly the route was, is amazing.

Also at QE Park were Simon Bodsworth and Jade Fish, running in the Southdowns Midnight Marathon. Runners start between 8.30pm and 9.30pm and run along the South Downs Way to Cocking before returning to the park.

Bodsworth completed the marathon in 5.17 with Fish taking six hours.

Paul Coe and Judith Blazeley ran the Invader Marathon at Bere Regis in Dorset.

The heat and hills made it particularly difficult but Coe finished in 4:35 and Blazeley 6.27.
