Moore makes it count at Fontwell

Gary Moore doesn’t have too many fruitless trips to Fontwell Park and he was in the winner’s enclosure again on the track’s latest midweek meeting.

The Horsham-based trainer saw son Joshua ride 10/1 shot Psi to victory in the Champagne Joseph Perrier Handicap Hurdle.

It was, though, his only success on a day when no jockey or trainer managed a double and when winners were hard to find in some unpredictable races.

The seven-race card kicked off with the Neil Madgwick Memorial Novices’ Hurdle which went to 10/3 favourite Well Regarded, ridden by Sam Thomas for Emma Lavelle.

The Louis Latour Beginners’ Chase was won by Robert Thornton on Alan King-trained Balzacchio (7/4) while the Oxford Landing Estate Conditional Jockeys’ Novices’ Handicap Hurdle was taken by Andrias Guerin on Caunay for Neil Mulholland at 7/1.

Tom Scudamore won the Hildon Handicap Chase on the 9/4 favourite Double Chocolate, trained by David Bridgwater, and Paul Moloney took first in a thrilling Hennings Wine Merchants Handicap Chase on 10/1 contender Olympian Boy, trained by Sophie Leech, by three-quarters of a length from the favourite Osmosia.

Last up was the Paritua Mares’ Intermediate Open National Hunt Flat Race, which went to Sam Jone riding Buxom (15/2) for Oliver Sherwood.

Fontwell race again next Thursday, October 27.
