A SUMMER of tennis action is getting under way in Fishbourne - and this year, for the first time, everyone is invited to take part. Fishbourne Tennis Club ( are offering players of all ages and abilities the chance to pick up a racquet and dust off their skills by coming along to one of a series of open-court sessions at the club through June and July.

“Interest in tennis shoots up around Wimbledon time and we want to make sure anyone who suddenly gets the urge to play can come along and do exactly that,” said a spokesman for the club.

“We are especially keen to see younger players. It doesn’t matter if they play regularly or just occasionally, they will be welcome at Fishbourne Tennis Club.”

The taster sessions are free and offer no-obligation opportunities to hit some balls, get some coaching, meet the members and check out the facilities at a good-value, friendly tennis club.

To take part, players should contact the club with their details via the contact section of the website, where further details of the 2013 Fishbourne tennis season will also be available.

The club, based at the Fishbourne Centre in Blackboy Lane, have also announced new incentives for the summer, with special membership deals available.

Members are able to take part in five mix-in club sessions a week on the all-weather, floodlit courts. In addition, they can play for free any time outside club sessions.

There are thriving tennis training sessions for juniors, men and ladies with the club’s coaching partner, Generation Tennis, and a busy calendar of competitions and tournaments.

The club also offers a year-round social programme, which this year will include barbecues, an autumn dance, table tennis and petanque.

“Fishbourne is an informal club with the emphasis always on enjoying tennis – we look forward to being able to share that passion with as many new people as possible this summer,” added the club spokesman.
