Eleven gymnasts from Arun Gymnastics & Trampoline Club travelled to Burgess Hill for the Sussex four-piece novice and intermediate competition – and picked up an impressive haul of 11 medals.
Georgina Reynolds, Kseniya Kagarova and Olivia Hepburn were in the eight-year-olds’ novice event. In the January to June births section Georgina’s beautiful floor routine earned her silver, while an excellent third place on bars and good results on vault and beam helped her to overall third and another bronze.
Kseniya put in consistent performances – notably fifth on floor and vault – and ended fifth.
Olivia Hepburn was Arun’s other eight-year-old novice competitor and was competing in the July to December group.
She also showed wonderful consistency across all four pieces and picked up bronze for her strong vault, fifth places on floor and beam and a sixth on bars. She just missed out on an overall medal with a fourth-place finish.
Other Arun gymnasts in novice categories were Lucy Aldred in the nine-year-old age group and Molly Ireland in the ten and 11s.
Both put in a good effort in large fields, with Lucy’s best performance coming on the vault where she was seventh.
Molly came away with another medal with an excellent vault giving her third place and a bronze. She narrowly missed out on a medal for her floor with a fourth place and went on to finish a very creditable eighth.
Arun had six intermediate gymnasts, with Caitlyn Baird, Dasiy Donoghue and Gemma Payne in the ten and 11s class and Sophie Haines, Rebecca Williamson and Jenna Partridge in the 12 to 14s. All put in great efforts and five scooped medals.
Caitlyn was top performer in the ten and 11s’ group where an excellent bars gave her silver and a graceful floor routine bronze. These performances combined with her vault and beam put her fourth overall.
Daisy’s powerful vaults gave her silver and left her seventh, while Gemma was unlucky to finish fourth on her floor.
Arun’s medal tally increased in the 12-14s’ intermediate competition where the three girls dominated the floor exercise.
First place went to Sophie, joint second were Jenna and Rebecca.
On vault Jenna was fourth, Rebecca fifth and Sophie eighth; bars saw Sophie fourth, Jenna sixth and Rebecca ninth, and beam saw Sophie and Rebecca joint fifth with Jenna seventh.
The overall scores showed Sophie as the best-placed Arun gymnast in fifth with Jenna sixth and Rebecca seventh.
