Arun gymnasts were back in action after the summer break with eight of their elite-squad girls competing against the best gymnasts from Kent, Surrey and Sussex in the 2013 regional levels competition at Guildford.

This was a high-level all-round competition, meaning medals were awarded only for overall score - so it was important to maintain consistency.

The youngest gymnasts competing for Arun were Daisy Evans and Summer Harris in the level 14 in-age competition. Neither had competed at such a level before and both gave really good performances with Summer getting sixth place for her strong bars performance and Daisy proving the stand-out performer.

Her consistency saw her gain top-ten finishes on all four pieces of apparatus with an outstanding first place for her wonderful vault, fourth on floor and sixth on both beam and bars, good enough for a very well-deserved bronze for overall third place.

Olivia Pinchbeck, Libby Morton and Grace Markey were representing Arun at level five with Olivia competing in age and Libby and Grace out of age. Olivia’s best performance came from an eighth place on the beam while Libby had three top-ten apparatus finishes including third on vault, fifth on bars and tenth on floor to place her overall tenth.

Gabriella Noviello competed at modified level five for year 2002 births. She also put in some fantastic individual apparatus performances with an excellent first place on vault, fifth on bars, sixth on floor and ninth on beam, combining to place her overall eighth.

Molly Evans, older sister of Daisy, competed in the level four out-of-age competition where she won a coveted rosette for overall sixth place following a fabulous second place on beam, an eighth on floor and a ninth on vault.

The final Arun competitor was Olivia Kirkwood, competing in the modified level four for 01/00 births. She also put in excellent individual performances with a fantastic first place on vault, sixth on floor, eighth on bars and tenth on beam - combining to give her sixth overall and a well-earned rosette.

Head coach Mandy Hawkins was pleased with the girls’ individual efforts and is hopeful they can improve their consistency for the forthcoming Sussex championships.
