One of the most iconic moments of the London 2012 Olympics was a pair of brothers from Yorkshire who conquered the world to win gold and bronze in the triathlon – Alistair and Jonny Brownlee.

They have been a dominant force in the sport since they first burst onto the scene. Of the 28 ITU World Triathlon Series races in which there has been a Brownlee on the start line, one of the brothers has won 22 of them.

Now they have their own triathlon series, and this year’s new Macmillan Brownlee Tri South will take place at the stunning Petworth House and Park on Sunday, June 15.

Alistair and Jonny created the Brownlee Tri to fulfil the London 2012 legacy and encourage people of all ages and abilities to take part in a sport that has given them so much enjoyment. The first Brownlee Tri was hosted in Yorkshire last year, attracting 6,000-plus competitors and spectators.

Despite a busy summer of competition, the brothers were keen to expand the series this year to include a southern-based event, and chose Petworth House and Petworth Park as the perfect venue.

Alistair said: “Our first Brownlee Tri last year was amazing – watching competitors and spectators enjoying the sport we love. To have the opportunity to grow the event this year is fantastic – we are already looking forward to meeting people on June 15.”

Response to the new Macmillan Brownlee Tri South event has been fantastic, with hundreds of sign-ups already and lots of entrants taking part in a triathlon for the very first time, but there are still places available.

In front of the backdrop of the vast late 17th-century mansion, competitors will swim, cycle and run within the idyllic South Downs countryside and around the beautiful deer park.

The venue will host sprint and super-sprint triathlon distance events for individuals, as well as having youth, junior and adult categories, and a sprint relay - something for everyone.

Jonny said “We want the Brownlee Tri series to be part of our legacy and to see as many people take part as possible.”

Macmillan Cancer Support has been announced as the title partner, with entrants able to join Team Macmillan and compete to raise money for the charity.

The event will include an entertainment village packed with food stalls and a range of activities. Competitors can get free training plans from TriTrainingHarder, goodie bags and prizes from Boardman, Huub and adidas, and an exclusive triathlon insurance discount with TriathlonGuard.
