DESPITE the weather’s best efforts, British University College Sport action returned for University of Chichester teams after the winter break with seven teams victorious.

The men’s lacrosse team were led by a man-of-the-match display from Laurence Bennett at the back while Anthony Thornton’s hat-trick and two assists did the damage at the other end.

The other outdoor home game saw another Chichester win, with the women’s rugby team running riot once again - this time beating UCL 51-0. In tough conditions, Rosie Tugwell with three tries led the scoring to maintain the team’s 100 per cent league winning record.

In drier conditions, the women’s volleyball team secured a comfortable 3-0 victory away to New Bucks University to move second in the BUCS League standings.

The women’s tennis team, led by Oliver Rolls, secured a 10-2 win over Roehampton University, while the netball fourth team overcame LSE twos 34-18.

The final home games of the day saw two basketball victories - first Megan Martinez’s women’s team destroyed St Marys 147-12 thanks a good all-round team displays and offensive contributions from Kiely Reed (35 points) and Margareta Hegedus (29).

The men’s first team secured a vital 75-72 win over Portsmouth, with Jack Green’s crucial three consecutive three-pointers in the fourth quarter helping establish a lead their local rivals couldn’t overcome.
