A 12-year-old pupil from The Prebendal School in Chichester is following in her family’s footsteps and making a name for herself in the sailing world.
Katya Jeppesen Frank has earned a place in the national youth development squad for Mirror sailors aged eight to 18.
The squad is the first step on the RYA pathway that leads from club sailing to the Olympic sailing team.
Katya’s older sister, Michaela Boughton, who represented GB in sailing and is a former Prebendalian, taught her to sail and continues to train her.
Katya says her background has helped her a lot: “I have been around big yachts since I was little and I started sailing at the age of nine. It is a great hobby and I’m really pleased to have won a place in the squad.”
Katya has also been influenced by her aunt, Christina Bassadone, who competed in two Olympics and is another former Prebendalian.
Mum Louise Jeppesen said: “I am really happy that she loves sailing and is following in the family tradition.”
Headmaster Tim Cannell said: “Katya is an exceptional sailor and she really deserves her place. It is a highly competitive sport and we are extremely proud of her and her achievements so far.”
