The Bognor-based Star Darts League held their pairs knockout competitions.
Both men’s and ladies tournaments took place with a total of 66 players taking part.
In the male competition, Claremont A’s pair of Jack Danahar and Wayne Wadsworth were victorious, while, Emma Bist teamed up with Whitney Gatford to be crowned ladies pairs Star Darts League champions for 2016 .
Claremont B thrower Dave Owens produced the highest-out shot of the evening with 124 but that couldn’t help him and partner James Bartley win the competition as they bowed out in round one.
The first male semi-final saw Danahar and Wadsworth overcome Hunston Club pairing of Rob Misselbrook and Graham Clear in comprehensive fashion.
In the other semi, Colin Mace and Dave Mitchell, both Squash Club, ended Alex Norgett and Keith Robinson’s run in the 2016 tournament.
All of the earlier stage matches were best of three legs but the final was extended over five.
Eventual winners Danahar and Wadsworth stormed into a 2-0 lead before Mace and Mitchell pulled one back. It was too little to late, though, as this year’s winners took the honours in the next leg.
The ladies competition were treated to a maximum shot from birthday girl Paula Duckett, though, that was not enough to prevent her and Julie English bowing out in the semi-finals.
On the other side of the draw, Bist and Gatford swept past all in front of them to secure a final meeting with Anji Evans and Rachel Hall both of POW B.
Once again the final was a best of five-leg encounter in which Bist and Gatford came out on top to be crowned 2016 winners.
They were forced to do it the hard way after Hall and partner Evans raced into an early 2-0 lead.
Bist and Gatford kept their hopes alive taking the third-leg, before wrapping up the next one to ensure a decider.
Both pairs looked nervous but it was Evans and Hall having first shot at a double to win the title. They failed to find the target with Bist and Gatford finishing it off to complete a remarkable turnaround to become pairs winners.
