Regis Gymnastics are celebrating after a successful day at the county floor and vault championships in Burgess Hill.

Willem Keijser-Petch, making his competition debut, put in two excellent performances to take the bronze medal in the novice eight-nine age group.

Older brother Johan Keijser-Petch was competing in only his second competition and his first at the higher intermediate level. He was not daunted and performed superbly to take the Gold medal by a substantial margin to become Regis’s first county champion.

Regis’s 12 squad girls also had a strong day. Ellie Poyser finished in a very impressive fourth place in the tough eight-years novice category, while Elissa Jones took second place for her floor routine for 11 years novice.

Bethany Dugdale had an exceptional first competition in the 12-14 novice category. A superb floor routine netted her first place and only a minor mistake on her vault kept her just out of the medals in fourth place overall.

Head coach Anna King said: “I’m really pleased with the team’s performance and everyone really enjoyed themselves. Although we don’t have the resources of some of our competitors, everyone works hard to achieve comparable results.”

The club are based at the Arena Sports Centre and would-be gymnasts should contact Anna on 07799 836341 or The Arena on 01243 870000.
