Chichester Falcons Softball Club are starting 2016 with a new juniors fast-pitch softball programme at Midhurst Rother College.
Softball is a mixed sport in which boys and girls play on the same team. Similar to rounders, the game is a direct descendant of baseball. When played indoors, softball is a fast and fun sport which requires teamwork and athleticism.
Starting on Thursday, January 7, there will be weekly training and indoor softball matches under the supervision of Falcons coaches.
Plans are also afoot with the British Softball Federation to organise visits from GB softball coaching staff to take some of the sessions, as well as the Falcons juniors’ first competitive experience in friendlies against Guildford Mavericks.
Club manager David Morris said: “The players have worked hard all summer in 2015 and their progress has attracted the interest of the GB softball setup in London.
“With softball set to return to the Olympics in 2020 there is suddenly a lot of focus on youth softball as the nation gears up to compete internationally on the diamond. We are determined that with hard work and practice, we can help some Falcon juniors make the grade.”
