TENNIS ace Ben Stride continues to prosper - his latest success on court coming in the exotic surroundings of Mauritius.

The Felpham teenager is ranked 283 in the world at under-18 and has just returned from a fortnight on the Indian Ocean island, where he did well in singles and doubles tournaments.

Stride reached the final in the doubles and singles in the first week but lost both, and got to the quarter-finals of the singles in the second week and won the doubles with Brandon Laubser of South Africa.

This year he has played in tournaments in Kenya, Holland, Norway, Tunisia, Scotland, Ireland and now Mauritius.

He has consistently reached the finals or semi-finals, which has enabled his world ranking to reach its present level.

Stride is aiming to qualify for Junior Wimbledon next summer. He will go into the top 200 ITF juniors in the world when the older players drop out in January but may go even higher as he will continue to play other tournaments.

Stride - who is sponsored by JW Sports - plays for Angmering-on-Sea Tennis Club when he is home.

He attends the Win Tennis Academy at Bisham Abbey, Buckinghamshire, and attends Henley College, where he is studying for three A-levels.

His ambition is to go to an American university on a tennis scholarship and he is considering several offers.
