BOGNOR took some of their up-and-coming boxers to the Cooper Boys ABC show in Totton.
Bognor’s Charlie Mason fought Poole ABC’s Jeremy Magderila and after a nervous start from both, Mason took control with his southpaw jab and straight lefts but the more aggressive Magderila was awarded a close split-decision victory.
Bognor’s Henry Charles took on George Schwarzin of Poole in a fast-paced bout. Good boxing from Schwarzin earned him the first round but Charles upped his intensity in the second and third and was awarded a unanimous decision.
Next, Bognor’s James Baker took on Poole’s Sam Davis. This was a rematch and even better than the first contest.
Davis, with his accurate jabs and crosses, controlled the opening round but Baker started to land his powerful body shots in the second.
With the bout even going into the third, both boys went after the win but Baker’s strength and fitness earned him a close split decision.
Credit must go to both boys for an outstanding bout which won Baker the boxer-of-the-night trophy.
The Bognor club also held its end-of-season trophy presentations.
Best junior was Mark Johnson, most improved boxer was Harry Reed while club boxer and best senior was James Baker.
