He was invited by coach Sharon Blackman and among those he met was 15-year-old Isaac Jolley, the No1 in Britain for under-16 fencing, who was set to head off to the European Under-17 Fencing Championship and next month will go to the World Under-17 Fencing Championship.

Mr Gibb said: “It is excellent that at The Arena Sport Centre in Bognor, we have a club producing British and hopefully European and world champions.

“The club meet on Wednesdays and currently have 12 members, aged from seven to 18 years. Fencing as a sport is often the preserve of the public schools so it is good to see pupils from local state schools taking part and succeeding in such an unusual sport.”
