He arrived for his drive-in in a specially-designed Reliant Robin escorted by Rodney, Boycee and others. But he stopped short of promising that this time next year, everyone at the club would be millionaires.

A large crowd watched him tee off and this was followed by a shotgun four-ball better-ball competition with 144 members taking part.

Winners were Don McCloud and Trevor Ridges with 42 points on countback ahead of Gary Embleton and Dave Grover.

Third were Norman Lee and Ian Pettie with 41 points on countback from Andy Weir and Dan Keats in fourth.

The ladies’ four-ball better-ball competition was in the afternoon over ten holes.

Sue Crossen and Debbie Fenton won with 23 points. Second were Wendy Johnson and Heather Tidy with 22 on countback. Nearest the pin winner was Marge Fenwick.

Jon Scott provided the music for the captain’s welcoming party, attended by 170 members and guests.
